I gave him this advice: find someone who you trust, who can write reasonably well, and explain the situation to them. He can't talk himself up and when he tries it comes out with qualifiers and self put-downs.

I have one friend, M4, who is a white midwestern male, full of that bullshit humility. If the answer is no, you need a different plan. Can I write without hesitation things about myself which cast me in the best light, and without sabatoging myself with bullshit humility? (Humility is great, but man - this is one shot, sometimes you've got to set aside your humility). My advice (take it or leave it) is to start by asking yourself a question. If you ran 10 marathons last year, you might say "MrSpencerNorth has shown dedication to his own health and wellbeing as evidence by completing 10 marathons."
